Kassey Voorn & Deepfunk – Long Time Coming microCastle

Two of my favourite producers team up to produce this melodic techno masterpiece and there’s even a remix from Oliver Lieb. The other side to this EP entitled “Where You Are” is as equally good with lovely vocal and synth samples. The EP will definitely be going into my record collection but I won’t be buying it from Beatport.

Label spiel
The 29th release on microCastle microCastle features a heavyweight collaboration courtesy of Kassey Voorn Kassey Voorn & Malcolm Abdilla aka Deepfunk.
After winning both the Bedrock and Cocoon remix competitions Greece’s Kassey Voorn was one of 2012’s most hyped producers. Appearances on Hernan Cattaneo’s Sudbeat, Cid inc’s Replug and Paul Hazendonk’s Manual Music have lifted the Greek producer even higher and as 2013 begins Kassey remains one of the most sought after remixers in the new landscape of progressive house.

Maltese producer Malcolm Abdilla aka Deepfunk has been riding a wave of immense success that has now stretched to well over two years. His appearances on Bedrock, Sudbeat and more recently Wide Angle Recordings and his own Sixtysevensuns label have all been fabulous and we’re thrilled to finally have a project from him on microCastle. Together Kassey and Malcolm have crafted the Where You Are EP which comes with two brand new original productions and remixes from Nhar and Oliver Lieb.

The Where You Are original comes with a wide array of haunting vocals (provided by Kassey) and complex melodies which deliver the perfect amount of emotional content. An acid flavoured broken beat section two thirds of the way through provides a unique dance floor interlude before transitioning to a melodic finale that’s full of mesmerizing vocal gates and sweeping harmonies.

A dub of Where You Are has also been provided for the less vocally inclined. The lone remix of Where You Are comes from Nhar who is making his debut on microCastle. The German producer has been pushing his contemporary deep house sound on labels like Mobilee, Plak and Correspondant for many years and we’re thrilled to have him on microCastle. For his Where You Are interpretation Nhar has delivered an anthemic, pristinely produced deep house rework that is rich in emotion and includes a great vocal hook from the original for a wonderfully soulful touch.

The second original on the package is entitled Long Time Coming which is a reference in regards to how long it took for the collaboration to finally be completed. 🙂 The track proves to be the perfect companion for Where You Are with its spacey electronics, hazy atmospheres, long tension filled melodic tones and fluttery key clusters.

The lone remix of Long Time Coming is provided by German techno legend Oliver Lieb who we have been fans of since we first heard his work for Sven Vath’s Harthouse label in the early 90’s. Oliver has also been a firm favorite of some of the world’s biggest DJ’s over the years; namely Sasha & Digweed who have featured many of his productions in their live sets and storied Global Underground CDs. Oliver’s Long Time Coming interpretation takes all the great melodic elements and twists them into an up-tempo techno bomb. Filled with Oliver’s signature futuristic sound design and a relentless melodic energy this one is sure to go down as one of Oliver’s best remixes to date.

Another monster from microCastle – get on it!
